HOW A 22-YEAR-OLD CONVERTED RS 15,000 INTO A RS 15 LPA JOB

The founder of VCMedia Labs has revealed how, at the age of 22, he bagged a job paying Rs 15 lakhs per annum. Sushrut Mishra started VCMedia Labs in June 2023 as a personal branding agency for tech entrepreneurs. However, only a few months before he started his own venture, Mishra was like any other young professional, earning Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per month.

In a thread shared on X, he explained how he bagged a job paying Rs 15 LPA in September 2022. Mishra said that Rs 15,000 borrowed from his ex helped him kickstart his career as a personal brand strategist and social media maverick.

“At 22, I borrowed Rs 15,000 from my ex to book a return trip to Bengaluru. I had nothing but a hunch,” he wrote. “But that hunch converted Rs 15,000 into Rs 15,00,000.”

Mishra said his ex was organising an event for developers in Bengaluru in September 2022. A lot of startup founders were expected to be in attendance. “That was it. I knew I'd get something there. But I had no money,” he wrote.

At that time, Mishra was earning Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per month, of which the majority he sent back home. Living paycheque to paycheque, he had no money to fly to Bengaluru for the conference.

He borrowed Rs 15,000 from his ex to book a flight to Bengaluru. Once there, he had no money to book a hotel room. So, Mishra’s ex agreed to let him hide in her hotel room. He spent two days hiding in that room, sneaking out carefully to avoid detection by staff.

All of this to attend the developers conference – a bet that paid off for Mishra. While attending the event, he paid attention to every founder’s presentation. Eventually, one founder said he was “hiring a developer advocate, community manager.”

Mishra knew it was the role he wanted. He got in touch with the founder and after a couple of calls and an interview, he had a job paying Rs 15 LPA.

“Within 17 days, I'd converted a borrowed ₹15K into ₹1500K job,” he wrote.
