ROBLOX TO ALLOW DEVELOPERS TO SELL GAMES FOR REAL MONEY, ANNOUNCES CREATOR REWARD PROGRAM

Roblox game developers will be able to sell their games for real-world money after a new feature rolls out later this year. The Roblox feature will come to PC first and then to other supported platforms, Roblox co-founder and CEO David Baszucki said in an official news post.

Presently, Roblox game developers charge Roblox users a one-time Robux fee to play paid games. But from later this year, game developers can charge real money for access to their paid experiences (only on desktops) and thus earn a higher revenue.

“Experiences selling at $9.991, $29.991, $49.991 will receive 50%, 60%, and 70% revenue share, respectively. We’ll roll this out for people to purchase on desktop this year, with plans to later expand to other supported devices,” Baszucki said in the post.

Roblox Creator Affiliate Program

The Roblox CEO also announced a Creator Affiliate Program “that rewards developers for new users that they bring to Roblox.”

As part of the Creator Affiliate Program, “creators will be able to set up unique links for their experiences, and if someone uses that link to sign up and purchase Robux, the creator will earn a share of the revenue that person generates from their Robux purchases — anywhere on the platform — for the first six months”.

Roblox Corporation plans to test the “program with a few creators shortly, enabling them to earn up to 50% on qualified purchases.” Applications for the first version are now being received.

Baszucki said that the company expects the Creator Affiliate Program “to be available to all eligible creators by mid-2025”.
