WOMAN WINS RS 41 LAKH JACKPOT WITH HER FIRST-EVER LOTTERY TICKET
An American woman who bought her first lottery ticket as an afterthought ended up winning the $50,000 jackpot – that’s about Rs 41 lakh. Katelynne Berland, of Yorktown, Virginia, said she was running to buy her Mom some lottery tickets from a 7-Eleven store when she decided to get one herself.
According to the Virginia Lottery, the first-time player purchased a ticket for the daytime drawing of Pick 5 lottery, which is drawn twice a day, seven days a week, at a 7-Eleven on Ottis Street.
On April 14, when the results were announced, Berland’s ticket turned out to be a winner, matching all five numbers: 2-9-4-2-3 - the odds of that happening are 1 in 100,000.
Her beginner’s luck paid off as she won Rs. 41,70,902.
When asked how she planned to spend her winnings, Berland said she will help out her sister with her college's tution fee.
